ICC World Cup 2019 – Match 11 – Pakistan vs Sri Lanka, Preview, Probable XI, Head to Head Record

The 11th match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2019 will be played between two used-to-be Asian powerhouses Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Both teams have been struggling with some patchy form of late, with consistent performances proving hard to come by. This match should be an interesting contest with both teams coming off their first win in the world cup.

Sri Lanka opened their campaign on the worst possible note, going down against New Zealand by 10 wickets. That was a match where none of the batsmen apart from skipper Dimuth Karunaratne managed to show any fight. In the second match of the campaign, against an inexperienced Afghanistan side, some of the batsmen managed to come good, helping the team post a respectable total on the board.

Even though they managed to win the match by a comfortable margin, there are still a few glaring issues in the team that need to be addressed immediately. The batsmen need to find some form quickly, especially against a formidable bowling unit of Pakistan. Even in the last game, the team got bowled out for a meager 201 against an Afghanistan attack that doesn’t possess the threat that the Pakistan attack will. The bowling too needs attention because apart from Nuwan Pradeep and Lasith Malinga there isn’t anyone else who can provide regular breakthroughs.

On the other hand, Pakistan is said to be one of the most unpredictable teams in the world and they proved it in their first two matches itself. In the first game, the whole team was bowled out for just 105 runs. Just when the experts had started to write off their campaign, they came roaring back to defeat the hosts and strong tournament favorites England after posting 348 runs on the board.

While the first match saw none of the batsmen put their hand up and be counted, the second one saw runs from every batsmen, with 3 fifties and 2 40-odd scores being posted. The bowling too seemed a lot better than it did in the first game. After performances like these one tends to think that there are actually two Pakistan teams at play. Which Pakistan will turn up for the game tomorrow, is anybody’s guess.

Probable XI:

Pakistan:

Imam-Ul-Haq, Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Sarfaraz Ahmed (C) (WK), Asif Ali, Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz, Hasan Ali and Shadab Khan.

Sri Lanka:

Lahiru Thirimanne, Dimuth Karunaratne (c), Kusal Pererra (wk), Kusal Mendis, Dhananjay de Silva, Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perera, Isuru Udana, Suranga Lakmal, Nuwan Pradeep and Lasith Malinga.

Pitch Report:

This match is set to be held at the Bristol County Ground, where the pitch has become quite flat over the last few years. There might not be a lot of bounce for the bowlers to extract, with the only good news for the bowlers being some assistance early in the morning with the new ball. Spinners might have a hard time at this ground, especially with the short straight boundaries coming into play.
