Ashes 4th Test – England vs Australia – Preview, Team News, Fantasy Prediction

The Ashes series is level at 1-1 going into the 4th test match at Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester. The Australians missed the presence of Steve Smith in the third test after he suffered a concussion from a Jofra Archer delivery in the 2nd test. Even then Tim Paine and Co. were in a good position to take a 2-0 lead in the series, but Ben Stokes spoiled the party and England came away with the win.

England on the other hand have a couple of problems of their own, most importantly Jason Roy’s failure as an opener in the longest format of the game. Roy still keeps his place in the side and will bat at number four. Steve Smith is back in the Australian side after his injury lay off and will bolster the team as well as morale after that Ben Stokes show in the last game.

Pitch Report:

There is a forecast of rain in Manchester over all five days of the match. So there will be some irritating and frequent interruptions to the game. The pitch is apparently on the faster and bouncier side, so there will be something in it for the fast bowlers throughout. Spinners will come into play on the 4th and 5th day of the game.

Probable Playing XIs:

England: Rory Burns, Joe Denly, Joe Root (C), Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow (WK), Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Craig Overton, Stuart Broad, Jofra Archer, Jack Leach.

Australia: David Warner, Marcus Harris, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Matthew Wade, Tim Paine (C & WK ), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc/Peter Siddle, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon.

Interesting Statistics on Top Performers:

Ben Stokes: Leading run scorer in the series with 327 runs at an average of 81.75.

Marnus Labuschagne: He has only played 3 innings thus far but scored 213 runs, with three half centuries at an average of 71.

What to expect?

Steve Smith is the most consistent Aussie to pick, other than that Marnus Labuschagne is a good choice. From England if you have to, try out Joe Root and Joe Denly. There is a high probability that England will win the match and take a 2-1 lead in the series.
